Hope you all are healthy and happy.
A thing that has come to my notice lately is all the talk about warm-up and whether it is important. If you too are questioning its significance and probably planning to skip it the next time, I would advise you not to do so. Warm-up is an activity carried out to prepare your body for exercise. It should be specific to the type of exercise you are doing but should be a full-body warm-up even if you only plan to focus on a few muscle groups. For instance, if you are planning to do an upper-body workout you should do a warm-up which not only includes upper body exercises, but also a few lower/full-body exercises. An effective warm-up loosens muscles, increases efficiency, and promotes a safer workout.
While it may not seem like a big deal, a warm-up is non-negotiable. To help you understand better, I am going to enlighten you with some of its benefits below.
Prevent Injury and Muscle Cramps: One important benefit of a warm-up is its ability to protect your muscles from unnecessary cramps or injury. A warm-up increases the
body’s core and muscle temperature which loosens your joints and increases blood flow to your muscles. This in turn alleviates the stress on joints and tendons. A warm body is ready to execute vigorous movements with ease. Take note that warming up is unlike stretching, which should be avoided when your muscles are cold. Your warm-up should consist of low-key cardiovascular activity, any static stretch (stretches in the ending position) should be avoided. They are not supportive of the definition of warm-up because of a stop of blood flow to the muscles.
Boost Performance: A warm-up elevates your performance. It gives you the time to prepare mentally and physically. It increases flexibility, strength, and speed, which will boost your potential to the maximum and get into the zone with ease. A body that is better-abled with a warm-up helps you attain fitness goals and keep soreness at bay.
It Demonstrates the Workout: Ideally, a warm-up consists of the kind of workout you are going to indulge in (Upper body, lower body, running, etc). This acts as a good
demonstration of what your workout is going to be like. Just being informed in advance will surely help you act better.
In case you had plans to miss warm-up I am sure you must have dropped them by now. Warm-up is essential. Make sure you gear yourself right to witness a better you!
