As you all may already know, I took part in the IRONMAN 2021 marathon which was based in Dubai this year and was pleased to successfully complete the course within due time.
Now, I want to talk a little bit about my training experience and some challenges I had to overcome while preparing for the marathon.
Let me begin by saying that training for IRONMAN is not easy. It requires a lot of dedication, patience, consistency and most importantly, hard work.
During the training period, my days began as early as 4:30 AM to kick-start my practice. Since all pools were closed due to the pandemic, I had to drive down to the sea early in the morning for my swimming practice. This had to be one of the biggest hurdles I faced.
Apart from my regular work, I had to dedicate 3 to 4 hours specifically for my training every day. This went hand in hand with spending time on meal preparations and taking proper care of my diet and nutrition, which is an important part of the training process as well.
While it was quite challenging to manage it all at once, what I learned is that a little pre-planning goes a long way. Planning my day in advance helped me to keep track of everything that I needed to do and manage my time accordingly.
Another sacrifice I had to make was missing out on a lot of social activities which I used to enjoy in my free time. Waking up at 4:30 AM meant going to bed early in order to complete my sleep cycle. While this meant saying no to a lot of social events for a while, I knew it will all be worth it in the end.
Training for IRONMAN is a time-consuming process. One has to be put in the work and show up for training every single day. The best way to go about it is to plan your day beforehand and set an achievable target to ensure good results.
These are some of my learnings and experiences from training for IRONMAN 2021 that I hope inspires and helps you to achieve your fitness goals as well.
